Soluble CD23
Introduction Soluble CD23
is a 25 kDa fragment produced by the proteolytic cleavage of the
transmembrane glycoprotein CD23. IL4 released by TH2 cell binds to its
receptor on B cells with the release of soluble CD23 into the serum. Thus
elevation of serum soluble CD23 concentrations reflects activation of B
cells. Polyclonal activation of B cells has been demonstrated among
patients with endometriosis. In fact, serum soluble CD23 concentrations
are significantly elevated among patients with endometriosis compared with
controls (p < 0.0001).

Indications for
Testing Infertile women whose symptoms are suggestive of
endometriosis could be investigated with soluble CD23.

Detection Method Soluble
CD23 is detected by standard ELISA procedure.

Interpretation of Test
Results Normal range is 15-73 u/ml.
